Dak Hing Barbecue is a no-frills Chinese barbecue spot tucked into a small storefront on Avenue Van Horne, just a short walk from Plamondon Metro station. Its unassuming appearance belies a focus on straightforward, well-executed Cantonese-style roasted meats. This is the kind of place where you come for a quick, flavorful meal rather than a traditional sit-down dinner experience — many locals grab their favorites to go, or enjoy their order on the nearby bench outside.

The menu centers on classic BBQ staples like roast duck, BBQ pork (charsiu), and soya chicken, all prepared with a balance of savory marination that doesn’t overpower the meat. Portions tend to be generous, making it a solid choice for a satisfying lunch or casual dinner. The duck stands out for its moistness and restrained saltiness, while the pork shows good tenderness and an authentic charred edge. Homemade additions like pickled vegetables and kimchi complement the meats well, offering a refreshing contrast.

Service here is friendly without being overly formal, which fits the relaxed rhythm of this neighborhood spot near the Jewish General Hospital—a convenient pick-up for hospital visitors and local residents alike. The modest setting encourages quick visits but also offers grab-and-go ease for busy days or takeout meals at home.

Visitors who appreciate genuine Chinese BBQ prepared with care—and those who prefer a quieter alternative to Chinatown’s hustle—will find Dak Hing Barbecue a dependable choice. It’s best visited around lunch or early evening when freshly roasted meats are ready, and the vibe leans toward practical comfort rather than dining spectacle.

Good roasted pork and BBQ duck. Fairly juicy and tender. We especially like their BBQ duck, which is not overly salty, well balanced. There isn't much to say except for good Chinese BBQ stuff! Probably slightly better than the ones you can get from Chinatown.

I went to Dak Hing Barbecue because it was supposed to have the best Chinese BBQ in Montreal. The restaurant is a small hole in the wall place near Plamondon Metro station. The service is friendly and I ordered my usual soy sauce chicken along with roast pork. Not the best Chinese BBQ I have eaten, but it was pretty good for Montreal.

The best Chinese bbq/charsiu in town! The meat is so well marinated, flavour is amazing, large portion size, and friendly staff. Highly recommend!

Located on Van Horne near Victoria Ave in Montreal, very close to Montreal Jewish General Hospital where my dear dad lived his last remaining years, so access is very easy via Decarie Expressway or by the Metro. Whenever I visited my dad at the hospital, I'd walk over here to get everyone lunch, they got great BBQ from roast duck ((燒鴨) to BBQ pork (叉燒), and all kinds of Cantonese BBQ braised yummies. You can get each by the pound or have a lunch bento box specials ~$15CAD, which is about $10USD, it's an amazing deal, and the lady owner is very friendly, each time I come back from California to visit my family, I always make sure to drop by to get some of the best BBQ outside of Hong Kong, Penang or GuanZhou. They braised their duck/chicken feet, roast pork, pig intestines etc in large batches, so there's no way you can recreate that yourself, besides it's not worth your while, just get them at Dak Hing, and tell them the Dude from California sent you!,

Authentic and tasty Cantonese BBQ. You can take home or eat on the bench in front of the meat shop

Great quality Chinese food. I came here expecting a filling meal for a low price and I got one. Don’t miss out on the sticky rice and bbq pork. Just be mindful the roasted duck has many bones which was pesky to eat but it was very fatty and juicy. Workers were very nice and were patient with me trying to e transfer since it is cash only and no seating only takeout. Definitely coming back here again. 9/10

Let’s be clear here, this is not an eat in place it’s for take outs hence one star for atmosphere. Service is very nice and accommodating and prompt as you are in a line. Food is excellent and fresh. They sell by the pound as well as lunch combos. Let’s break this down. I’ve eaten here for years with 100% consistency. I have never been let down. Unless you go to Chinatown or other distant old school Chinese places this one of the authentic and reasonably priced delicious places to get this type of cuisine. Lunch time people come in non stop to get food to bring home and eat lunch - like I did in the car. So, they have pork sausage, duck, wings, and then pork ribs and pork from various parts of the body - you select what you want. I have tried all and they are all yummy, but for me the absolute delight is the crispy pork with that crunchy skin and tender meet. They give you a dip but it really does not need any other flavouring. Try it and you’ll fall in love with this no nonsense place that serves honest to goodness home made food at adorable prices.

Take out only. Absolutely delicious. Great idea for dinner, its easy to take out and they bring out the best of each meat. Everything is prepared with care and love. Whatever the occasion is, this take out dinner will be a hit for sure. Needless to say I am coming back soon.
